Grande Prairie adds 39 new COVID-19 cases, 26 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 39 new cases of COVID-19 and 26 recoveries for Monday, May 3, bringing the active case total in the City up by 13 to 478.

The County of Grande Prairie added 16 new cases along with 17 recoveries for Monday. There are now 191 active cases in the County.

Those new figures bring the City of Grande Prairie to a rate of 643.8 active cases per 100,000 population, while the County sits with a rate of 601.2 per 100,000. Those rates are above the provincial active case rate, which sits at about 536.9 per 100,000, with 23,623 active cases in the province.

Across Alberta, there were 1,743 new cases identified following the completion of 14,585 tests. Those tests had a 12 per cent positivity rate.

These new cases come ahead of an announcement from Premier Jason Kenney Tuesday evening about new public health restrictions being implemented to curb the sharp rise in new daily COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in Alberta.

The address will begin at 6 p.m.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day May 3 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 3,415 cases (478 active, 2,911 recovered, 26 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,202 cases (191 active, 1,007 recovered, four deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 521 cases (20 active, 497 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 20 cases (two active, 18 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 77 cases (eight active, 69 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 25 cases (one active, 24 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 144 cases (10 active, 124 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 694 cases (89 active, 593 recovered, 12 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 329 cases (43 active, 286 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 627 cases (80 active, 547 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 112 cases (15 active, 96 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 133 cases (132 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 306 cases (28 active, 277 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 118 cases (six active, 112 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,605 cases (164 active, 1,419 recovered, 22 deaths)

There were 671 Albertans in hospital for COVID-19 as of Monday night, an increase of 13 over the last 24 hours. Of those, 150 patients are in intensive care, down four from the day prior.

In the North Zone, 93 people are in hospital (up seven), 16 of whom are in intensive care (same as day prior).

There were nine new death reported to Alberta Health from across the province over the last 24 hours. There have now been 2,099 deaths recorded in Alberta due to COVID-19 complications.

As of Monday, 1,668,455 doses of vaccine have been administered in the province, with 28,152 of those doses being administered on May 3.

303,509 people have received two doses of the vaccine, meaning they are fully immunized.

Approximately 30.5 per cent of Albertans have received at least one dose of vaccine.
