Grande Prairie records 56 new COVID-19 cases, 55 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 56 new cases of COVID-19 and 55 recoveries for Wednesday, May 5, bringing the active case total in the City up by one to 453.

The County of Grande Prairie added eight new cases along with 16 recoveries for Wednesday. There are now 179 active cases in the County.

Those new figures bring the City of Grande Prairie to a rate of 610.1 active cases per 100,000 population, while the County sits with a rate of 563.5 per 100,000. Those rates are above the provincial active case rate, which sits at about 556.75 per 100,000, with 24,497 active cases in the province.

Across Alberta, there were 2,211 new cases identified following the completion of 19,909 tests. Those tests had a 11.1 per cent positivity rate.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day May 5 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 3,489 cases (453 active, 3,010 recovered, 26 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,223 cases (179 active, 1,039 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 529 cases (27 active, 498 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 20 cases (two active, 18 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 78 cases (six active, 72 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 26 cases (two active, 24 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 144 cases (nine active, 125 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 701 cases (79 active, 610 recovered, 12 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 338 cases (42 active, 296 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 643 cases (89 active, 554 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 117 cases (18 active, 98 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 133 cases (132 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 306 cases (17 active, 288 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 120 cases (seven active, 113 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,637 cases (172 active, 1,442 recovered, 22 deaths)

There were 654 Albertans in hospital for COVID-19 as of Wednesday night, a decrease of 12 over the last 24 hours. Of those, 146 patients are in intensive care, same as the day prior.

In the North Zone, 85 people are in hospital (down three), 17 of whom are in intensive care (same as day prior).

There were no new deaths reported to Alberta Health from across the province over the last 24 hours. There have been 2,102 deaths recorded in Alberta due to COVID-19 complications.

As of Wednesday, 1,732,582 doses of vaccine have been administered in the province, with 37,907 of those doses being administered on May 5.

308,027 people have received two doses of the vaccine, meaning they are fully immunized.

Approximately 31.9 per cent of Albertans have received at least one dose of vaccine.
