Emergency crews rescue injured dirt biker on Saskatoon Mountain

May 8, 2021 | 9:08 PM

Late Saturday afternoon, at around 5:15 p.m., the Beaverlodge and Wembley Fire Departments were dispatched to a dirt bike accident in a forested area on the south side of Saskatoon Mountain.

Because of the remote location, additional resources needed to be called in.

ATVs from the County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Service, Technical Search and Rescues team and STARS helicopter were all dispatched to the scene.

Firefighters accessed the dirtbiker on a slope below the mountain lookout with ropes to provide immediate care.

ATVs and a rescue trailer from a staging location were set up at Township 722 and Range Road 94.

The patient was stabilized on-site by EMS and firefighters, and was then transported down a cut line by rescue crews to receive higher levels of care.

“This incident is an excellent example of the great relationships our fire service has with other first response agencies,” said Regional Fire Service Deputy Chief Jason Nesbitt.

“When needed, all agencies work together through a centrally coordinated response to ensure the best outcome for the patient. This rescue operation went exceptionally well.”
