Grande Prairie adds 33 new COVID-19 cases, M.D. of Greenview listed as “hot zone”

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 33 new cases of COVID-19 and 31 recoveries for Saturday, May 8, bringing the active case total in the City up two to 504.

The County of Grande Prairie added nine new cases and seven recoveries for Saturday. There are now 174 active cases in the County.

There were three new cases of COVID-19 identified in the M.D. of Greenview, that region is now up to 30 active cases. Because the region currently has 30 active cases of COVID-19, additional restrictions will come into effect.

Restrictions include moving outdoor gathering limits down to a maximum of five people (down from 10) and religious services can only have 15 people in attendance (down from 15 per cent of fire code capacity). The restrictions in this region will remain in effect for a minimum of three weeks.

The M.D. of Greenview includes Valleyview, Fox Creek and Grande Cache. More information on restrictions implemented can be found here.

Across Alberta, there were 1,633 new cases identified following the completion of 15,509 tests, resulting in a 10.5 per cent test positivity rate.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day May 8 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 3,628 cases (504 active, 3,098 recovered, 26 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,262 cases (174 active, 1,083 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 538 cases (30 active, 504 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 23 cases (four active, 19 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 79 cases (five active, 74 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 26 cases (two active, 24 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 144 cases (eight active, 126 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 704 cases (64 active, 628 recovered, 12 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 348 cases (48 active, 300 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 654 cases (95 active, 559 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 120 cases (19 active, 100 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 134 cases (one active, 132 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 306 cases (five active, 300 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 123 cases (nine active, 114 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,695 cases (193 active, 1,478 recovered, 24 deaths)

Across the province, hospitalizations grew by seven to 668, while ICU patients increased by seven to 155.

In the North Zone, 86 people are in hospital (down seven), 19 of whom are in intensive care (up one).

There were two new deaths reported to Alberta Health from across the province over the last 24 hours,, 2,110 Albertans have now died as a result of COVID-19.

As of Saturday, 1,889,039 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the province, with 42,485 of those doses being administered on May 8.

316,514 Albertans have been given their second dose and are fully immunized.
