RCMP investigating suspicious death in Dawson Creek area

May 10, 2021 | 5:14 PM

The RCMP North District Major Crime Unit in B.C. has been called in to investigate a suspicious death after a body was found just outside the Village of Pouce Coupe on Sunday morning.

Dawson Creek RCMP were called to the area of Highway 2 and Clark Road at around 9 a.m. May 9 to reports of a body being found.

Cpl. Madonna Saunderson with the B.C. RCMP says investigators are working closely with the BC Coroners Service to determine the identity of the deceased and to confirm the cause of death.

RCMP add that they are also investigating whether this death is in any way linked to a vehicle fire that happened about four hours prior to the body being discovered.

Police say a 2002 white Pontiac Grand Am was found on 198 Road at around 5:15 a.m. on May 9, about eight kilometres from where the body was discovered.

“While it is certainly too early to link the vehicle fire with the person’s death, we are (investigating) the potential link and seeking additional information to timeline the location of the vehicle leading up to the fire being reported,” says Cpl. Saunderson.

“If you saw or know the whereabouts of a 2002 white Pontiac Grand Am in the Pouce Coupe area, between Saturday, May 8, at 5 p.m. and Sunday, May 9, at 5:15 a.m., we are asking you to call police.”

Those who saw anything suspicious in the area of either the location of the body or the vehicle fire, or may have dashcam video, are asked to contact the Dawson Creek RCMP at 250-784-3700.
