Grande Prairie adds 38 new COVID-19 cases, 52 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 38 new cases of COVID-19 and 52 recoveries for Tuesday, May 11, bringing the active case total in the City down by 14 to 478.

The County of Grande Prairie added 11 new cases and 17 recoveries for Tuesday. There are now 155 active cases in the County.

Those new figures bring the City of Grande Prairie to a rate of 643.8 active cases per 100,000 population, while the County sits with a rate of 487.9 per 100,000. The provincial average sits at about 567.3 cases per 100,000, with 24,962 active cases in the province.

Across Alberta, there were 1,799 new cases identified following the completion of 17,534 tests, resulting in a 10.3 per cent test positivity rate.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day May 11 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 3,710 cases (478 active, 3,206 recovered, 26 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,288 cases (155 active, 1,128 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 552 cases (40 active, 508 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 28 cases (nine active, 19 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 79 cases (three active, 76 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 26 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 144 cases (one active, 133 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 705 cases (35 active, 658 recovered, 12 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 355 cases (48 active, 307 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 663 cases (87 active, 576 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 123 cases (21 active, 101 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 134 cases (one active, 132 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 306 cases (two active, 303 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 126 cases (11 active, 115 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,746 cases (209 active, 1,513 recovered, 24 deaths)

Across the province, hospitalizations grew by 32 to 737 as of Tuesday night, while ICU patients increased by six to 169.

In the North Zone, 96 people are in hospital (down four), 13 of whom are in intensive care (down two).

There were four new deaths reported to Alberta Health from across the province over the last 24 hours. A total of 2,123 Albertans have now died as a result of COVID-19.

As of Tuesday, 1,975,341 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the province, with 28,337 of those doses being administered on May 11.

320,751 Albertans have been given their second dose and are fully immunized.

About 37 per cent of Alberta’s population has received at least one dose of the vaccine.
