Grande Prairie records 13 new COVID-19 cases, 39 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 13 new cases of COVID-19 and 39 recoveries for Wednesday, May 12, bringing the active case total in the City down by 26 to 452.

The County of Grande Prairie added four new cases and 14 recoveries for Wednesday. There are now 145 active cases in the County.

Those new figures bring the City of Grande Prairie to a rate of 608.8 active cases per 100,000 population, while the County sits with a rate of 456.4 per 100,000. The provincial average sits at about 558.7 cases per 100,000, with 24,9586 active cases in the province.

Across Alberta, there were 1,558 new cases identified following the completion of 15,266 tests, resulting in a 10.2 per cent test positivity rate.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day May 12 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 3,723 cases (452 active, 3,245 recovered, 26 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,292 cases (145 active, 1,142 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 557 cases (43 active, 510 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 30 cases (11 active, 19 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 80 cases (four active, 76 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 26 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 144 cases (one active, 133 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 705 cases (28 active, 665 recovered, 12 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 357 cases (46 active, 311 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 665 cases (77 active, 588 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 123 cases (21 active, 101 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 135 cases (two active, 132 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 306 cases (one active, 304 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 127 cases (12 active, 115 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,760 cases (207 active, 1,529 recovered, 24 deaths)

Across the province, hospitalizations decreased by 15 to 722 as of Wednesday night, while ICU patients increased by eight to 177, a record high during the pandemic.

In the North Zone, 95 people are in hospital (down one), 16 of whom are in intensive care (up three).

There were nine new deaths reported to Alberta Health from across the province over the last 24 hours. A total of 2,132 Albertans have now died as a result of COVID-19.

As of Wednesday, 2,019,713 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the province, with 44,372 of those doses being administered on May 12.

322,247 Albertans have been given their second dose and are fully immunized.

About 38 per cent of Alberta’s population has received at least one dose of the vaccine.
