Grande Prairie records 30 recoveries, 10 new COVID-19 cases

The City of Grande Prairie’s active COVID-19 cases continued it’s downward trend on Saturday, May 15, as 10 new cases and 30 recoveries were identified.

The Swan City now has 370 active cases, which translates to 498.3 per 100,000 people.

The County of Grande Prairie’s active COVID-19 case count dropped to 115 (362 per 100k) after recording three new cases and 15 recoveries.

The new figures come as Alberta Health confirmed 1,140 new cases across the province, bringing Alberta active case count to 22.280.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day May 15 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 3,761 cases (370 active, 3,365 recovered, 26 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,314 cases (115 active, 1,194 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 567 cases (48 active, 515 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 30 cases (10 active, 20 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 80 cases (three active, 77 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 26 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 144 cases 134 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 708 cases (22 active, 674 recovered, 12 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 356 cases (35 active, 321 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 665 cases (48 active, 617 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 129 cases (24 active, 104 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 135 cases (two active, 132 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 307 cases (one active, 305 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 131 cases (13 active, 118 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,807 cases (203 active, 1,580 recovered, 24 deaths)

The new cases come as 11,858 tests were completed on May 15, meaning the positivity rate for the day was 9.63 per cent. The seven day average was for a positivity rate of 10.67 per cent.

Alberta Health confirmed that hospitalizations continued it’s decline on Saturday, as hospitalization cases decreased by 39 to 647. However, COVID patients in intensive care increased by 10 to 186.

Of those cases, 75 are hospitalized in the North Zone, 15 of whom are in intensive care.

Three more Albertans died due to COVID-19, bringing the provincial death toll up to 2,143. There have been 166 COVID deaths reported in the North Zone.

A total of 2,189,999 COVID-19 vaccine doses have now been administered in the province, and 41.6 per cent of Alberta’s population have received at least one dose, while 7.3 per cent of the population is fully immunized with both jabs.
