Canadian show jumper Eric Lamaze withdraws from Tokyo short list
BRUSSELS — Canada’s most decorated show jumper has withdrawn from consideration for the Tokyo Olympics.
Eric Lamaze, winner of Olympic gold, silver and bronze medals, was one of five athletes named to Equestrian Canada’s short list to compete in the Summer Games.
The 53-year-old from Montreal won individual gold and team silver in 2008 in Beijing aboard Hickstead, as well as an individual bronze in 2016 in Rio with Fine Lady.
Lamaze has undergone treatment for a brain tumour the last three years. He says in a statement his health has stabilized, but it remains among several reasons for his withdrawal.
