Vaccine Bookings

COVID-19 vaccine appointments available at Grande Prairie PCN

May 17, 2021 | 10:47 AM

The Grande Prairie Primary Care Network is booking first dose COVID-19 vaccination appointments starting on Thursday, May 20.

Appointments can be booked for anyone aged 18 and older, and all users are asked to bring one piece of identification and their Alberta Health Care card.

The Primary Care Network is a network of physicians from the Grande Prairie area, and Executive Director Samantha Semograd says the doctors are excited to have the clinic offer doses.

“We know that the physicians in the community are going to be advocating for their patients to give us a call to get their vaccine, and what we’re hoping is that the evening and weekend clinics will also entice those patients that are coming in from out of town after work, and therefore we’ve extended our hours to open until later at night.”

Late afternoon and evening appointments are available on Thursday and Friday from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., while daytime appointments can be booked between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday on the PCN website. People can also call 780-539-9204 to book a shot.

The PCN has 200 doses of the Moderna vaccine to be administered locally by PCN nurses and physicians, and they have the option to get more doses if there is sufficient demand.

“We’ll be able to order directly through Alberta Health, so this supply is separate to Alberta Health Services’ supply, we’ll be able to order extra doses. So a minimum of 100 doses, and we could order up to 500 a week, depending on what the demand is.”

Semograd says at this time they are only offering first doses, but they will be ready for when the province gives the go-ahead to administer the second doses as well.
