A drug trafficking investigation in Grande Prairie has led to charges against a city man and the seizure of various drugs.

RCMP say on Wednesday, May 12, municipal officers executed a search warrant at a Westpointe neighbourhood home, in the area of 75 Avenue and 115a Street.

During the search, officers seized what is believed to be 40 grams of cocaine, 34 grams methamphetamine and 20 tablets of oxycodone. Police also seized drug paraphernalia, $503 in cash and items they say are consistent with drug trafficking.

With that, 33-year-old Nicholas Berry of Grande Prairie has been charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000

Following a judicial interim hearing, Berry was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on June 14.

Sgt. Shawn Graham with the Grande Prairie RCMP says any resident that suspects drug activity happening in their community is encouraged to report it to the RCMP at 780-830-5700.

“The RCMP remains fully committed in building ‘safe communities’ and enforcing laws to their fullest extent, in order to achieve this goal,” he says.
