Those new figures come as the province rolled out a new interactive map Monday, which shows vaccine uptake in communities around the province.

That map shows that as of May 16, 20,468 people, or 27.3 per cent of the population in the City of Grande Prairie, have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

In the east County of Grande Prairie, 6,108 people or 28.5 per cent of the population have received at least one dose, while 3,616 people or 29.5 per cent of the Beaverlodge/west County area have received one jab.

Though those figures are in line with most of the North Zone, the current uptake regionally is below the provincial average as 42.2 per cent of Albertans have received at least one dose.

Premier Jason Kenney did say on Monday during a press conference that he had noticed a slower uptake in the North Zone for the vaccine.

“What we’re trying to figure out is what lies behind that, how can we help those folks get the information they need, or perhaps just make it more convenient to get the vaccines,” Kenney said, speaking of all areas of the province which have seen slower uptake of vaccines.

Across Alberta, 2,217,446 doses of vaccine have been given out, with 27,447 of those being administered on Sunday.

There were 721 new cases of COVID-19 identified across Alberta following the completion of 7,002 tests, resulting in a 10.3 per cent test positivity rate.

Hospitalizations for COVID-19 in Alberta have increased by 31 to 678 as of Sunday night, while the number of ICU patients decreased by five to 181.

In the North Zone, 92 people are in hospital (up 17), 16 of whom are in intensive care (up one).

There were five new deaths reported to Alberta Health from across the province over the last 24 hours. A total of 2,148 Albertans have now died as a result of COVID-19.
