Grande Prairie records 32 COVID-19 recoveries, 11 new cases

The City of Grande Prairie added 11 new cases of COVID-19 and 32 recoveries for Monday, May 17, bringing the active case total in the city down by 21 to 333.

Three new cases and 14 recoveries were recorded in the County of Grande Prairie for yesterday. There are now 101 active cases there.

There were 877 new cases of COVID-19 identified across Alberta following the completion of 8,081 tests, resulting in a 10.9 per cent test positivity rate.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day May 17 are as follows:

• City of Grande Prairie: 3,778 cases (333 active, 3,419 recovered, 26 deaths)
• County of Grande Prairie: 1,320 cases (101 active, 1,214 recovered, five deaths)
• M.D. of Greenview: 571 cases (43 active, 524 recovered, four deaths)
• Birch Hills County: 30 cases (10 active, 20 recovered)
• M.D. of Spirit River: 80 cases (three active, 77 recovered)
• Saddle Hills County: 26 cases (all recovered)
• M.D. of Smoky River: 144 cases (134 recovered, 10 deaths)
• Big Lakes County: 708 cases (12 active, 684 recovered, 12 deaths)
• M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 355 cases (27 active, 327 recovered, one death)
• M.D. of Peace: 668 cases (37 active, 631 recovered)
• M.D. of Fairview: 129 cases (16 active, 112 recovered, one death)
• Clear Hills County: 135 cases (two active, 132 recovered, one death)
• Northern Sunrise County: 307 cases (one active, 305 recovered, one death)
• County of Northern Lights: 131 cases (13 active, 118 recovered)
• Mackenzie County: 1,818 cases (183 active, 1,611 recovered, 24 deaths)

Hospitalizations for COVID-19 in Alberta have increased by 13 to 691 as of Monday night, while the number of ICU patients decreased by six to 187.

In the North Zone, 88 people are in hospital (down four), 16 of whom are in intensive care (unchanged).

There were four new deaths reported to Alberta Health from across the province over the last 24 hours, including the first death in the Slave Lake area. A total of 2,152 Albertans have now died as a result of COVID-19.

The City of Grande Prairie inched its vaccination uptake total over 28 per cent on Monday, as another 636 doses of were administered.

A majority (65%) of those doses were given to people aged 20-39. In total, 21,104 Grande Prairie residents have received at least one dose of vaccine, making for a total of 28.1 per cent of residents.

A total of 2,865 people, or 3.8 per cent of Grande Prairie residents, have been given two doses and are fully immunized.

In the County, 261 more doses were given out. In the east and west County region combined, 9,985 people have received at least one dose, equaling 29.8 per cent of the population.

Across Alberta 26,523 doses were given out on Monday, meaning 2,243,969 Albertans have received at least one dose of vaccine. That total means 42.8 per cent of Albertans are immunized with one dose, while 7.4 per cent have been fully immunized with two doses.
