Grande Prairie drops below 300 active COVID-19 cases

The City of Grande Prairie added 16 new cases of COVID-19 and 67 recoveries for Tuesday, May 18, bringing the active case total in the city down by 51 to 282.

This is the first time since March 31 that the City of Grande Prairie has had under 300 active cases.

Six new cases and 17 recoveries were recorded in the County of Grande Prairie for Tuesday. There are now 90 active cases there.

There were 908 new cases of COVID-19 identified across Alberta following the completion of 10,392 tests, resulting in a 9.1 per cent test positivity rate.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day May 18 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 3,794 cases (282 active, 3,486 recovered, 26 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,326 cases (90 active, 1,231 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 572 cases (43 active, 525 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 30 cases (nine active, 21 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 80 cases (two active, 78 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 26 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 144 cases (134 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 708 cases (10 active, 686 recovered, 12 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 354 cases (20 active, 333 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Peace: 668 cases (29 active, 639 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 129 cases (15 active, 113 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 135 cases (one active, 133 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 308 cases (one active, 306 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 133 cases (14 active, 119 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,828 cases (177 active, 1,627 recovered, 24 deaths)

Hospitalizations for COVID-19 in Alberta have decreased by six to 685 as of Tuesday night, while the number of ICU patients decreased by two to 185.

In the North Zone, 82 people are in hospital (down six), 14 of whom are in intensive care (down two).

There were six new deaths reported to Alberta Health from across the province over the last 24 hours. A total of 2,158 Albertans have now died as a result of COVID-19.

The City of Grande Prairie now has 28.6 per cent of its population with at least one dose of vaccine, with 351 more doses being administered on Tuesday.

In total, 21,104 Grande Prairie residents have received at least one dose of vaccine.

In the County, 169 more doses were given out. In the east and west County region combined, 10,154 people have received at least one dose, equaling 30.4 per cent of the population.

Across Alberta 27,986 doses were given out on Tuesday, meaning 2,271,969 Albertans have received at least one dose of vaccine. That total means 43.4 per cent of Albertans are immunized with one dose, with over 50 per cent of people over the age of 12 having at least one dose.
