Tuesday sees record daily rainfall in Grande Prairie
Tuesday’s dump of rain over Grande Prairie set the May 18 record here in the Swan City, as 30.5 mm of rain fell that day.
That total surpassed the 27.5 mm of rain that fell on that day in 1989.
In total 40.2 mm of rain fell between Monday and Tuesday, which was more than the average rainfall the Grande Prairie area typically sees. Environment Canada says the Swan City sees 38.3 mm of rain on average in the month of May.
That rain mostly fell while the Grande Prairie area was under a special weather statement due to the possibility of rain turning into wet snow. However, no snowfall was recorded in Grande Prairie.
