Grande Prairie man wins over $2 million on Oilers 50/50 draw

May 21, 2021 | 2:50 PM

While his Oilers may have come up short on Wednesday, a Grande Prairie man was still a big winner.

That’s because Rocky McAusland won $2,058,340 from Wednesday’s Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation 50/50 draw, held for Game 1 of the North Division semi-final between the Oilers and Winnipeg Jets.

The pot is the largest so far this season for the Oilers, who have become known for record setting jackpot amounts.

In August during the 2020 Stanley Cup playoff play-in round, a record jackpot of $14.1 million was built up amid surging demand for the Alberta-wide online draw. The pot, which the winner took home $7,088,425 of, was a North American pro sports record.

Game two of the best-of-seven series goes tonight, with the jackpot for tonight’s draw already surpassing $1 million. Tickets can be purchased online up until 11 p.m. on the EOCF website.

The Jets lead the series 1-0 after a 4-1 win on Wednesday.
