Grande Prairie adds two new COVID-19 cases, 21 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie added two new cases of COVID-19 and 21 recoveries for Saturday, May 22, bringing the active case total in the city down by 19 to 172.

No new cases and eight recoveries were recorded in the County of Grande Prairie for Saturday. There are now 65 active cases there.

There were 563 new cases of COVID-19 identified across Alberta following the completion of 6,944 tests, resulting in an 8.10 per cent test positivity rate.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day May 22 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 3,821 cases (172 active, 3,623 recovered, 26 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,335 cases (65 active, 1,265 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 577 cases (35 active, 538 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 30 cases (five active, 25 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 80 cases (one active, 79 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 29 cases (three active, 26 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 146 cases (two active, 134 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 709 cases (five active, 692 recovered, 12 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 354 cases (10 active, 343 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Peace: 669 cases (16 active, 653 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 131 cases (13 active, 117 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 135 cases (one active, 133 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 308 cases (one active, 306 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 135 cases (12 active, 123 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,848 cases (137 active, 1,687 recovered, 24 deaths)

Hospitalizations for COVID-19 in Alberta have decreased by 36 to 581 as of Saturday night, while the number of ICU patients dropped by two to 162.

In the North Zone, 66 people are in hospital (down six), 15 of whom are in intensive care (unchanged).

There were six new deaths reported to Alberta Health from across the province over the last 24 hours. A total of 2,176 Albertans have now died as a result of COVID-19 complications.

The City of Grande Prairie now has 33.2 per cent of its population with at least one dose of vaccine. Another 624 people have had their first shot, bringing the total number of people in Grande Prairie to get at least the first dose to 24,917.

In the County, 197 more people have been reported to have their first dose. In the east and west County region combined, 11,475 people have received at least one dose, close to 34 per cent of the population.

Across Alberta, 46,332 doses were given out on Thursday, bringing the total number of Albertans who have received at least one dose of vaccine to 2,506,919.

That total means 48.2 per cent of Albertans are immunized with at least one dose. Alberta Health adds 7.9 per cent of the population is fully vaccinated.
