P.A.C.E. Grande Prairie receives provincial funding aimed at supporting rural sexual violence survivors

P.A.C.E. in Grande Prairie is receiving $91,000 from the provincial government to help expand its supports to survivors of sexual violence.

The funding comes from a provincewide investment announced Wednesday of $1.2 million, aimed at expanding front-line supports to help more survivors in rural areas of Alberta to gain better access to services and supports they need.

The funding is meant to add more services like counselling, crisis response and outreach supports.

“Those dealing with sexual assault, sexual abuse, or crisis should be able to access services to help them heal from the trauma,” said GP-Wapiti MLA Travis Toews.

”It can be harder for survivors in rural areas to access these vital supports, which is why this funding ensures organizations like P.A.C.E. can provide enhanced supports and services for survivors of sexual violence in our region.”

P.A.C.E. (Providing Assistance, Counselling, and Education) has been in operation in Grande Prairie since 1980. It is an organization committed to providing skills, knowledge and resources to survivors in dealing with crises, post-traumatic stress, sexual abuse, child abuse, domestic violence and suicide.

“Alberta’s government understands how critical it is for survivors of sexual violence to have access to quality front-line services in the communities they call home. I’m proud to see our government investing in these supports in our rural communities.”

The province says this increase in funding from the $1.2 million program will be distributed to all provincially-funded sexual assault centres based on a percentage of their annual grant allocations.
