Grande Prairie records 11 COVID-19 recoveries, four new cases

The City of Grande Prairie added four new cases of COVID-19 and 11 recoveries for Thursday, May 27, bringing the active case total in the city down by seven to 106.

Eight new cases and eight recoveries were recorded in the County of Grande Prairie for Thursday. There remains 53 active cases there.

There were 512 new cases of COVID-19 identified across Alberta following the completion of 7,703 tests, resulting in a 6.6 per cent test positivity rate.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day May 27 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 3,847 cases (106 active, 3,715 recovered, 26 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,361 cases (53 active, 1,303 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 581 cases (20 active, 557 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 30 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 81 cases (one active, 80 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 29 cases (three active, 26 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 146 cases (two active, 134 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 710 cases (two active, 696 recovered, 12 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 356 cases (three active, 352 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Peace: 675 cases (12 active, 663 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 131 cases (four active, 126 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 135 cases (134 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 311 cases (310 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 135 cases (six active, 129 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,864 cases (59 active, 1,779 recovered, 26 deaths)

Hospitalizations for COVID-19 in Alberta have decreased by 21 to 517 as of Thursday night, while the number of ICU patients decreased by three to 147.

In the North Zone, 52 people are in hospital (up four), 12 of whom are in intensive care (down one).

There were seven new deaths reported to Alberta Health from across the province over the last 24 hours. A total of 2,206 Albertans have now died as a result of COVID-19 complications.

The City of Grande Prairie now has 36.2 per cent of its population with at least one dose of vaccine. Another 628 people have been reported to have had their first shot, bringing the total number of people in Grande Prairie to get at least the first dose to 27,177.

In the County, 188 more people have been reported to have their first dose. In the east and west County region combined, 12,167 people have received at least one dose, equalling 36.2 per cent of the population.

Across Alberta, 52,820 doses were given out on Thursday, bringing the total number of Albertans who have received at least one dose of vaccine to 2,269,416, while a total of 2,668,567 total doses have been administered.

That total means 51.4 per cent of Albertans are immunized with at least one dose or 60.3 per cent of those aged 12+. Alberta Health adds 8.3 per cent of the population is fully vaccinated.

With the 60 per cent threshold being met, that means the province is on track to reach Stage 2 of the “Open for Summer” plan by June 10, if hospitalizations fall below 500 and are trending downward by that time.
