Warm temperatures heading towards Peace Region

May 28, 2021 | 12:57 PM

Temperatures in the Peace Region are going to warm up as we head into the next week.

Throughout the next week, Environment Canada is predicting that the Grande Prairie and surrounding areas will see temperatures get to highs of 20-27 degrees Celsius.

Janelle Gergely a meteorologist with Environment Canada says most of the province will get this warm weather thanks to a warm front coming from the south.

“Right now, there is some rain, but we are going to see that push east and in its wake, we are going to see a building upper ridge and that’s going to keep increasing over the weekend.”

The warm ridge from the south won’t just impact the Peace Region, but will also impact the rest of Alberta and the eastern Prairies.

Gergely tells EverythingGP there is also a chance that the warm weather is here to stay.

“It looks like possibly next weekend we might see a change in the weather, but there isn’t very much consistency with that. Right now we aren’t seeing any significant systems coming through, or precipitation for the northern Alberta region.”

Gergely also added Environment Canada is predicting the month of June to be kind to residents in the Peace Region.

“For the Peace and Grande Prairie region it looks like (there) will be above normal temperatures, there is about a 50 per cent probability that will be the case,” she said.

“As you go north towards High Level, they’ll be at about more normal or slightly below normal temperatures. As of now, that’s our forecast for June.”

Gergely encourages everyone to enjoy the warm weather and to also be fire safe if you are out camping or having a campfire in your backyard.
