Two killed in avalanche in Jasper National Park

May 30, 2021 | 6:16 PM

Parks Canada says two people have died in an avalanche on a mountain popular with climbers near Jasper.

A communications officer with Jasper National Park says the slab avalanche occurred this morning on a mountain in the Columbia Icefield.

There is no information about the identities or home towns of those who died.

Jasper RCMP say they were called to the area at around 7:45 a.m. May 30.

They add efforts are being made to confirm the identity of the deceased, adding it appears the two were involved in recreational activities in the area.
