Heat warning issued for Peace River-Fairview-High Prairie-Manning forecast area

May 31, 2021 | 4:05 PM

The forecast area that includes Peace River, Fairview, Manning and High Prairie has been placed under a heat warning by Environment Canada.

The weather office says temperatures are expected to hit 29 degrees or higher on Tuesday and Wednesday, with overnight lows near 14 on both days.

Heat warnings are issued by the weather authority when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.

Environment Canada says under such conditions, residents should watch for effects of heat illness, like swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heatstroke and the worsening of some health conditions.

They add to never leave pets or people inside a parked vehicle under such conditions.

The warning is also in effect for Saddle Hills County, Clears Hills County and parts of the County of Northern Lights.

Temperatures are forecasted to cool down by Thursday, dropping to a high of 18 degrees by Sunday in Peace River.
