Evergreen Park (Grande Prairie Regional Agricultural & Exhibition Society) received some exciting news last week, as they were awarded one of the three Alberta Agricultural Society Innovation Awards.

The Agricultural Society Innovation Awards was presented to the agricultural society who best displayed creativity and community throughout 2020.

It was presented in three different categories: Regional Ag society, smaller primary Ag society (community size under 1,000) and larger primary Ag society (community sizer over 1,000)

Dan Gorman, the General Manager at Evergreen Park, says his team’s determination and quick thinking helped them win the award.

“It was a wonderful recognition for our team. I’m so proud of our staff and our team. The very first week after COVID we decided to meet and think of creative and innovative ideas that we could think of to give back to the community.”

Gorman attributes their partnership with the Grande Sunset Theatre, Elevation Sled Dogs Tours and pulling off a successful 2020 horse racing season as some of the reasons why he felt they were able to take home the award.

Gorman added the County of Grande Prairie also played a major role in seeing them earning the award, as they helped keep them significantly in 2020.

“We are very grateful that the County continues to support us and believed in the importance of the agricultural society’s going throughout the pandemic,” said Gorman.

Evergreen Park wasn’t the only agricultural society in the Peace Region to win an award.

The Bezanson Agricultural Society was chosen as the winner of the Small Primary Award category. The Small Primary Award was given to the Ag society that serves a community with under 1,000 people.
