Council highlights from Monday’s meeting
Highlights from Monday’s meeting of Grande Prairie City Council:
– Council has approved a License to Occupy City Land with the Peace Air Shed Zone Association. The 25-year license is for the spot in Muskoseepi Park where the Henry Pirker Monitoring Station is located.
– Council approved a $5000 grant from the Economic Development Fund for the Dining with Dignity program. This partnership between the Swan City Rotary Club, Grande Prairie & District Chamber of Commerce and Salvation Army would see gift cards for restaurants included in the food hampers given out by the Salvation Army. This is being seen as not only a way to help people who need food but a way to add some stimulus money for the eateries taking part.
– Council gave final approval to changes to its Procedure Bylaw. Third reading and final approval had carried over from the May 17 meeting. Council had some discussion about adding a provision that would limit remote attendance at a maximum of six committee meetings and six council meetings per year. Council ended up approved wording that said six committee days. Another idea to have that limit exceeded if someone was away on city business and had permission from the mayor to be at the meeting in person, although that idea was rejected.
