Sexsmith man charged following alleged assault of woman in Grande Prairie

Jun 3, 2021 | 11:49 AM

Grande Prairie RCMP have arrested a Sexsmith man on aggravated assault charges.

After receiving reports on an assault at approximately 4:20 p.m. on May 30, officers responded to the scene in the area of 104 Street and 100 Avenue, where they located an adult female who had received serious but non-life-threatening injuries as a result of an alleged assault.

The RCMP determined that the woman, who was an employee at a nearby business, had asked a man to move from where he was lying outside the building so that the grass could be mowed. The man then got up and allegedly assaulted the woman.

She was taken by EMS to the hospital for treatment, and was released later that night.

The RCMP’s investigation led to the arrest of 62-year-old Rheo Ouellette of Sexsmith on a charge of aggravated assault.

Following a judicial hearing, Ouellete was released from custody. He is due to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on June 28.

Anyone with information on this assault is asked to contact the Grande Prairie RCMP at 780-830-5700 or to make an anonymous report through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or through the P3 Tips website or app.
