Grande Prairie records 28th COVID-19 fatality

Grande Prairie has recorded its 28th death from COVID-19.

The fatality was one of seven reported to Alberta Health over the last 24 hours, with two of those seven being recorded in the AHS North Zone.

One of the North Zone fatalities was a man in his 20’s, while the other was a woman in her 80’s. Both deaths occurred on June 2. Both cases included comorbidities.

A total 2,243 Albertans have now died from COVID-19.

Meantime, the City of Grande Prairie added three new cases of COVID-19 and eight recoveries for Thursday, June 3, bringing the active case total in the City down to 70.

One new case and three recoveries were recorded in the County of Grande Prairie for Thursday. There are now 52 active cases there.

There were 244 new cases of COVID-19 identified across Alberta following the completion of 5,818 tests, resulting in a 4.6 per cent test positivity rate.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of June 3 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 3,884 cases (70 active, 3,786 recovered, 28 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,386 cases (52 active, 1,329 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 583 cases (six active, 573 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 30 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 81 cases (one active, 80 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 29 cases (one active, 28 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 147 cases (one active, 136 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 711 cases (two active, 697 recovered, 12 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 361 cases (seven active, 353 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Peace: 683 cases (15 active, 668 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 131 cases (129 recovered, two deaths)
  • Clear Hills County: 135 cases (134 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 314 cases (one active, 312 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 136 cases (one active, 135 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,883 cases (36 active, 1,821 recovered, 26 deaths)

Hospitalizations

Hospitalizations for COVID-19 in Alberta have decreased by 32 to 379 as of Thursday night, while the number of ICU patients decreased by 12 to 108.

In the North Zone, 37 people are in hospital (down three), nine of whom are in intensive care (down two).

Vaccinations

The City of Grande Prairie now has 40 per cent of its population with at least one dose of vaccine. The total number of people in Grande Prairie that have at least their first dose of vaccine sits at 30,027. A total of 3,860 people, or 5.1 per cent of the population in the city, has been fully immunized.

In the east and west County region combined, 13,082 people have received at least one dose, equalling 38.7 per cent of the population.

Across Alberta, 87,371 doses were given out on Thursday, bringing the total number of Albertans who have received at least one dose of vaccine to 2,485,658, while 466,269 Albertans have received two doses.

Those totals mean 55.6 per cent of Albertans are immunized with at least one dose or 65.3 per cent of those aged 12+. Alberta Health adds 10.4 per cent of the population is fully vaccinated.
