Survey seeks to learn community’s ideas on identity, future of GPRH

Alberta Health Services is conducting a survey that seeks to gather the community’s ideas that will help shape the identity of the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital.

AHS Senior Operating Officer for Grande Prairie Stacy Greening says the Finding Our True North survey is seeking the input of patients, staff and all stakeholders for the future hospital.

“As a regional facility, it’s important that we hear both from the local Grande Prairie population, but also those who live in all the surrounding communities throughout northwest Alberta, and really beyond, who will access services at our new facility.”

The survey, which is 13 questions long, is meant to help identify items such as which aspects of the facility and its services hold the greatest level of importance, as well as what the future of the hospital should look like.

Greening adds participants can also help identify areas like how the hospital can promote more inclusion, or what the overall look of the facility should be.

“I think patients will see that at the bedside, we’ll see that in how our facility is laid out, how we acknowledge the different cultures and communities throughout the facility with artwork and installations,” said Greening. “And land acknowledgments, those types of things.”

Greening adds there are several other ways community members can get involved with guiding the future of the GPRH, through such avenues as serving as a patient advisor, or getting involved with the Health Advisory Council.

A link to the survey can be found at the Together4Health website.

Greening says she remains confident the GPRH will open its doors to patients towards the end of 2021, though the pandemic has created issues in procuring some equipment needed at the facility.

“Our teams are working hard to mitigate any of the impacts of the pandemic, and we’re fairly confident in saying that we will be in that facility by the end of this calendar year.”
