RCMP investigating sudden death after burned human remains found in downtown dumpster

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit is investigating after a woman’s burned remains were found in a dumpster in downtown Grande Prairie Saturday morning.

This after Grande Prairie RCMP were called to the area between 99 Street and Resources Road, just north of 100 Avenue, on June 13 at 6:10 a.m., as they were called to assist the Grande Prairie Fire Department with a dumpster fire.

It was there police believed there were burned human remains in the dumpster.

Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit’s investigation later identified the deceased as an adult female. No further details regarding the deceased will be released at this time, authorities say, adding an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday in Edmonton at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit, along with the Grande Prairie RCMP General Investigative Section, will continue to investigate this sudden death.

RCMP Forensic Identification Section and the Fire Investigator have also assisted with this investigation.
