Grande Prairie Regional Sport Connection planning for in-person Try-It Day in September

After over a year of virtual “Try-It Days”, the Grande Prairie Regional Sport Connection says it’s planning on hosting an in-person Try-It Day on September 11, 2021.

Try-It Day is an annual event put on by the Grande Prairie Regional Sport Connection.

The day is meant to allow for people of all ages to try out a new sport within the Grande Prairie area.

“Try-It Day is a free day of exploration for all ages. The intention is to get sports organizations that are trying to build their memberships an opportunity to host participants throughout the region,” explained Karna Germsheid, the Executive Director of the Grande Prairie Regional Sport Connection.

“People will open up the Try-It Day link, they’ll have a huge menu that they can pick and choose from and they can register online and on September 11, they can find out what they like to do.”

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic putting sports on hold for the last year and a half, Germsheid thinks Try-It Day will continue to grow, with many people eager to get out and do something.

“I think there’s a real pent-up demand. I think there’s been a lot of behavior shift in people with the last year-and-a-half break. Some families have been discovering new things, so they are on the lookout for what else they can try if their likes and dislikes have changed,” she said.

“Not a lot of people recognize there are 90 different types of sports that are played in this region. Last time (for a Try-It Day) we had 33 different sports organizations participate, so it’s pretty incredible.”

Anyone interested in registering for Try-It Day can do so starting on August 23 at the Grande Prairie Regional Sport Connection website.
