Direct flights to Toronto, Vancouver out of Grande Prairie coming in August

Jun 16, 2021 | 9:20 AM

Direct flights to two of the biggest cities in Canada will soon be possible out of Grande Prairie.

On Wednesday Flair Airlines and the Grande Prairie Airport announced that non-stop flights to Vancouver and Toronto out of YQU will begin to be offered in August 2021.

Flights to Vancouver will begin August 1 with service on Wednesdays and Sundays. Flights to Toronto will begin on August 4 with service on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

“We are excited to have been chosen the Peace Country’s first ultra-low-cost airline service and we look forward to strong support from travelers,” said Brian Grant, CEO for the Grande Prairie Airport.

This announcement comes just weeks after Central Mountain Air announced it would begin providing flights between Grande Prairie and Edmonton at the end of June.

“Grande Prairie Airport works continuously to entice new airlines and the best possible choices for our region,” said Fletcher Bootle, Chair of the Grande Prairie Airport Commission.

“The perseverance and knowledge of our team has shown that even in the grip of a pandemic our senior management was able to attract two new airlines to our market as we recover from many months of severe operational challenges.”

Grande Prairie becomes the 20th destination served by Flair Airlines and fourth in Alberta (Calgary, Edmonton, Fort McMurray).

Flights are slated to be provided by a Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

Grant says Flair is well known for offering low fare flights. For example, Flair says base prices of some their first trips to Vancouver and Toronto can be seen below:

  • Grande Prairie (YQU) to Vancouver (YVR): $39 one way, inc. taxes and fees. Travel on August 4.
  • Vancouver (YVR) to Grande Prairie (YQU): $39 one way, inc. taxes and fees. Travel on August 4.
  • Grande Prairie (YQU) to Toronto (YYZ): $49 one way, inc. taxes and fees. Travel on August 7.
  • Toronto (YYZ) to Grande Prairie (YQU): $49 one way, inc. taxes and fees. Travel on August 7.

“Canadians are tired of being gouged for air travel and Flair is excited to bring our low fares to a fourth Alberta market,” said Garth Lund, Chief Commercial Officer.

“Flair continues to deliver tremendous value to underserved communities where restoring affordable regional travel will help reignite the Canadian economy.”
