Grande Prairie down to 40 active COVID-19 cases; Alberta closing in on 70% vaccination

The City of Grande Prairie recorded two new COVID-19 cases and four recoveries for Wednesday, June 16, dropping the City’s active case total to 40.

In the County of Grande Prairie, there were two new cases along with four recoveries. There are now 25 active COVID-19 cases there.

There were 150 new COVID-19 cases added in Alberta on Wednesday, following the completion of 6,044 tests. Those tests had a positivity rate of 2.4 per cent.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of June 16 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 3,926 cases (40 active, 3,857 recovered, 29 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,406 cases (25 active, 1,376 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 591 cases (seven active, 580 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 32 cases (two active, 30 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 81 cases (all recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 31 cases (one active, 30 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 147 cases (137 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 714 cases (four active, 698 recovered, 12 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 373 cases (13 active, 359 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Peace: 689 cases (seven active, 682 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 131 cases (129 recovered, two deaths)
  • Clear Hills County: 135 cases (134 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 312 cases (311 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 136 cases (all recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,921 cases (38 active, 1,857 recovered, 26 deaths)

Hospitalizations

Hospitalizations for COVID-19 in Alberta decreased by 13 to 242 as of Wednesday night, while ICU patients decreased by nine to 58.

In the North Zone, 29 people are in hospital (down three), six of whom are in the ICU (unchanged).

Fatalities

Two new deaths were reported to Alberta Health over the last 24 hours, bringing the death toll from COVID-19 in the province to 2,280.

Vaccinations

In Grande Prairie, 51.8 per cent of all eligible residents have their first shot of the COVID-19 vaccine, meaning 32,279 people 12 and older have at least one dose. There are 9,319 people, or 15 per cent of those eligible, who have been fully vaccinated.

Across Alberta, the number of people who have received at least one dose of vaccine sits at 2,661,130 while 922,276 Albertans have received two doses.

Those totals mean 59.5 per cent of Albertans are immunized with at least one dose or 69.9 per cent of those aged 12+.

Alberta Health adds 20.6 per cent of the population (24.2 per cent of those 12+) have been fully vaccinated.
