Grande Prairie adds 10 new COVID-19 cases, five recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie recorded ten new COVID-19 cases and five recoveries for Thursday, June 17, raising the City’s active case total to 45.

In the County of Grande Prairie, there were two new cases along with two recoveries. There remains 25 active COVID-19 cases there.

There were 124 new COVID-19 cases added in Alberta on Thursday, following the completion of 5,574 tests. Those tests had a positivity rate of 2.2 per cent.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of June 17 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 3,936 cases (45 active, 3,862 recovered, 29 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,408 cases (25 active, 1,378 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 591 cases (seven active, 580 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 32 cases (two active, 30 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 81 cases (all recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 31 cases (one active, 30 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 147 cases (137 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 714 cases (four active, 698 recovered, 12 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 373 cases (13 active, 359 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Peace: 689 cases (five active, 684 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 131 cases (129 recovered, two deaths)
  • Clear Hills County: 135 cases (134 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 312 cases (311 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 136 cases (all recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,922 cases (38 active, 1,858 recovered, 26 deaths)

Hospitalizations

Hospitalizations for COVID-19 in Alberta decreased by five to 237 as of Thursday night, while ICU patients held at 58.

In the North Zone, 25 people are in hospital (down four), five of whom are in the ICU (down one).

Fatalities

Three new deaths were reported to Alberta Health over the last 24 hours, bringing the death toll from COVID-19 in the province to 2,283.

Vaccinations

In Grande Prairie, 52.1 per cent of all eligible residents have their first shot of the COVID-19 vaccine, meaning 32,450 people 12 and older have at least one dose. There are 10,115 people, or 16.2 per cent of those eligible, who have been fully vaccinated.

Across Alberta, the number of people who have received at least one dose of vaccine sits at 2,671,564 while 983,186 Albertans have received two doses.

Those totals mean 59.8 per cent of Albertans are immunized with at least one dose, or 70.2 per cent of those aged 12+.

With the 70 per cent threshold reached as of June 17, that means Alberta will reach the third and final stage of its reopening plan on July 1, meaning most all public health measures will be removed in the province.

Alberta Health adds 22 per cent of the population (25.8 per cent of those 12+) have been fully vaccinated.
