Parks Canada says Whistlers Campground in Jasper National Park will officially reopen to the public on July 12, after being shuttered for the past two years due to renovations.

Officials say bookings at Whistlers will be available online starting at 8 a.m. MDT on June 24.

Bookings can currently be made for both the Wapiti and Wabasso campgrounds.

Over the past two years, Whistlers has been modernized as part of an approximate $60 million federal infrastructure investment project. This included the construction of a new registration centre, improved electrical and sanitation services, 18 new washroom and shower facilities and all campsites have been leveled and restored with new picnic tables and fire pits.

The federal government says in a release that about half of the 781 spots will be ready to be reserved for July 12, with the majority of the other half of sites will ready to book for approximately one week after.

They add work will continue throughout the year and over the winter months to naturalize areas in the campground impacted by construction, including landscaping.
