Four new cases, two more COVID-19 recoveries in Grande Prairie

The City of Grande Prairie recorded four new COVID-19 cases and two recoveries for Friday, June 18, raising the City’s active case total to 47.

In the County of Grande Prairie, there was one new case added along with one recovery. There are 23 active COVID-19 cases there.

Saddle Hills County is down to zero active cases.

There were 127 new COVID-19 cases added in Alberta on Friday, following the completion of 5,055 tests.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of June 17 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 3,940 cases (47 active, 3,864 recovered, 29 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,407 cases (23 active, 1,379 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 591 cases (seven active, 580 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 32 cases (two active, 30 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 81 cases (all recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 31 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 147 cases (137 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 714 cases (one active, 701 recovered, 12 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 373 cases (seven active, 365 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Peace: 689 cases (five active, 684 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 131 cases (129 recovered, two deaths)
  • Clear Hills County: 135 cases (134 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 312 cases (311 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 136 cases (all recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,923 cases (34 active, 1,863 recovered, 26 deaths)

Hospitalizations

Hospitalizations for COVID-19 in Alberta decreased by 16 to 221 as of Friday night, while the number of ICU patients dropped nine to 49.

In the North Zone, 26 people are in hospital (up one), four of whom are in the ICU (down one).

Fatalities

Six new deaths were reported to Alberta Health over the last 24 hours, bringing the death toll from COVID-19 in the province to 2,289.

Vaccinations

In Grande Prairie, 52.3 per cent of all eligible residents have their first shot of the COVID-19 vaccine, meaning 32,600 people 12 and older have at least one dose.

Across Alberta, the number of people who have received at least one dose of vaccine sits at 2,680,679 while 1,040,740 Albertans have received two doses.

Those totals mean 60 per cent of Albertans are immunized with at least one dose or 70.4 per cent of those aged 12+.

With the 70 per cent threshold reached as of June 17, that means Alberta will reach the third and final stage of its reopening plan on July 1, meaning most all public health measures will be removed in the province.

Alberta Health adds 23.3 per cent of the population (27.3 per cent of those 12+) have been fully vaccinated.
