Grande Prairie adds seven new COVID-19 cases, Alberta adds 57

The City of Grande Prairie added seven new cases of COVID-19 along with two recoveries for Monday, June 21, bringing the active case total in the city up by five to 55.

In the County of Grande Prairie, there were no new cases reported along with six recoveries. There are now 17 active cases there.

Across Alberta there were 57 new cases of COVID-19 identified, following the completion of approximately 5,000 tests. Those tests came with a positivity rate of 1.4 per cent.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of June 21 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 3,953 cases (55 active, 3,869 recovered, 29 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,409 cases (17 active, 1,387 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 592 cases (seven active, 581 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 32 cases (one active, 31 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 81 cases (all recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 31 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 147 cases (137 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 715 cases (one active, 702 recovered, 12 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 376 cases (nine active, 366 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Peace: 689 cases (three active, 686 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 131 cases (129 recovered, two deaths)
  • Clear Hills County: 135 cases (134 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 313 cases (312 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 136 cases (all recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,927 cases (23 active, 1,878 recovered, 26 deaths)

Hospitalizations

Across the province, hospitalizations for COVID-19 dropped by 14 to 200 as of Monday night, while the number of patients in an ICU decreased by two to 54.

In the North Zone, 21 people are in hospital (down three) with four in intensive care (unchanged).

Fatalities

One new death was reported to Alberta Health over the last 24 hours. 2,290 people have now died from COVID-19 in Alberta.

Vaccinations

In Grande Prairie, 52.8 per cent of all eligible residents have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, meaning 32,912 people 12 and older have at least one shot.

There are 12,079 people, or 19.4 per cent of the eligible population, that has been fully vaccinated.

Across Alberta, 2,697,234 people have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 1,156,974 Albertans have been fully vaccinated.

This means, 70.8 per cent of Albertans 12 and older have received at least a dose of a vaccine, while 30.4 per cent of the eligible population is fully vaccinated.
