The Rotary Dream Home Lottery has announced that Monarch Homes has been chosen as the builder for the 29th annual Dream Home.

Melissa Coulombe, the Raffle Manager for the Dream Home Lottery, tells EverythingGP the house will be an exciting and unique build.

“It’s going to be a stunner for sure. The home is under construction, it’s framed, windows are in, the shingles are on, we can’t give away all of the secrets, but it’ll be different than the ones we’ve seen in the past.”

The dream home will once again be located in Taylor Estates, which is the same location previous two dream homes have been built. It is a two-story home and the living area totals over 5000 square feet.

The last year and a half has caused many different challenges for the lottery organizers.

While there have been some challenges on the way, Coulombe says the community is a big reason why they’re able to continue this lottery on a yearly basis.

“We’ve definitely learned that this is a project that many people in the region hold really close,” said Coulombe. “In 2021 we were not able to open the home for a single day and it was one of our most successful lotteries to date.”

“People still buy their tickets because they care about where their funds go to. Through it all, we’ve learned that this means something to people in the region.”

Coulombe added moving their ticket sales online helped them keep the lottery on track and help raise the funds they need to support various local charities in the Peace Region.

With COVID-19 restrictions being lifted on July 1, Coulombe is hopeful they can welcome people into the home once it’s complete.

“We’re sure hoping that the home is going to be open this year again and it’ll be back to having the hustle and bustle on the weekend and the crowds visiting the homes and the excitement. We of course will continue to keep all of the options online if that’s how they choose.”

President-Elect for the Rotary Club of Grande Prairie Bruce Tattrie says the work the lottery does greatly helps the community.

“We are so fortunate to have this fundraiser in our community and (are) excited to watch the 29th annual event unfold,” he said.

“The lottery helps several community groups including those that sell tickets at the home each year. We are really looking forward to welcoming those groups back and excited to get rolling with another fundraiser that touches so many in our community.”

The home is planned to open in late December 2021 and tickets will go also go on sale in late December.
