Storm release 2021-22 AJHL schedule

Jun 29, 2021 | 11:34 AM

Heading into their 26th AJHL season, the Grande Prairie Storm have released their 2021-22 AJHL schedule.

The Storm open training camp on August 20, with the club’s exhibition schedule taking place from September 4-11. They’ll play Olds, Whitecourt, and Fort McMurray over five exhibition games.

While the exhibition games will be used as an opportunity for players to get back into game shape, the AJHL will be implementing a unique experiment during that time frame, a new overtime pilot project.

This pilot will see overtime consist of a 6-minute sudden victory period starting with 3-on-3 play, then moving to 2-on-2 at the first whistle after the 4:00 minute mark, and to 1-on-1 at the first whistle after the 2:00 minute mark. If the score remains tied after overtime a best-of-three shootout will follow.

Following the exhibition season, the Storm will begin play on their regular season with a two-game series in Drayton Valley against the Thunder on September 17 & 18.

The following week, the Storm host the Sherwood Park Crusaders for a back-to-back on September 25 & 26 at Revolution Place.
