For a third day in a row the City of Grande Prairie reached it’s hottest temperature ever recorded in the city’s history.

Environment Canada says temperatures at the Grande Prairie Airport topped out at 41.5 degrees Celsius on June 29, surpassing the record set on Monday with a maximum temperature of 38.4 degrees.

Monday’s high passed the previous record, set on Sunday, which reached a high of 36.1 degrees.

Previous to the ongoing heatwave, the record for hottest temperature recorded in the Swan City was 35.6, which was set on July 22, 2006.

That record of 41.5 may hold as forecasted temperatures in the coming days are set to drop off. The forecasted high for Wednesday is 39, while Canada Day is set to top out at 32, while Friday’s high is forecasted to hit 29.

A heat warning remains in effect for the Grande Prairie area, as does a special air quality statement due to the recent heat wave trapping pollutants under a ridge of high pressure over recent days.
