Grande Prairie Volunteer Services Bureau rebrands to highlight regional offering

Jul 4, 2021 | 7:00 AM

After 52 years the Grande Prairie Volunteer Services Bureau is rebranding.

The organization which serves charitable and non-profit volunteer groups in the region is now known as the Grande Prairie Regional Volunteer Association of Volunteer Organizations (GPRAVO).

Executive Director Carol-Anne Pasemko says the board has been considering the name change for a number of years as they wanted to show they serve more than just volunteer organizations in the City of Grande Prairie.

“We expanded our geographical area, so we were no longer just centred in Grande Prairie, but now we extend actually over quite a bit of the northwest. (The board) just felt it was time regional (name).”

Pasemko adds that with the province relaunching from public health restrictions, now made even more sense to pull the trigger on the new name.

“It was kind of like ‘okay, now’s the time,” she said. “We’ve positioned ourselves, we’ve worked so very, very hard, developed the staff. We have a wonderful team here that is absolutely incredible.”

As a way to get more volunteer organizations involved with the association, and to help groups recovering from the past 16 months, Pasemko says they will be waiving the $125 membership fee for one year for all organizations.

The mission of GPRAVO is to help the non-profit sector with tools and resources such as education, networking, support services to better thrive in the community.
