Teepee Creek Stampede welcoming fans back for Four Days in the Wild

Jul 5, 2021 | 6:04 AM

It will be a full Four Days in the Wild for the Teepee Creek Stampede this year now that provincial COVID restrictions have been mostly all lifted.

Stampede Association president Steve Meurs says it’s “a pretty big sigh of relief” to able to go ahead with the century-old event from July 8-11, adding the response from the community has been “very positive.”

“Just in general I’d say everybody is pretty happy right now with restrictions getting lifted and when it comes to finally having the Teepee Creek Stampede again, everybody has been very positive and supportive, and it’s been really great to see.”

He adds there is a fan base that comes every year but thinks there is also some “pent-up let’s get out and have fun attitude happening.”

“We (will) have a slightly different format than the past but all the same stuff. We have our junior rodeo. We still have professional rodeo. We still have chuckwagons running both pony chuckwagons and WCA wagons running. We still have live concerts happening and the beer garden party night.”

The number of nights of wagon racing will be three not the usual four and there will be one less day of pro rodeo.

“On the wagon side of things, those guys spent a whole year caring for the horses without letting them do what they love and that’s to run. I know of a couple of guys were training horses this spring just so that those horses had a sense of purpose and were able to race and now they’re back running, and everybody seems very excited to be doing it,” adds Meurs.

He also says the competitors have been preparing all spring with the rodeo contestants getting some chances to compete in the US earlier this year.

Tickets are being sold online here.
