Tip from the UK leads to child pornography charges against Grande Prairie man

Jul 6, 2021 | 10:48 AM

A tip which came from the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency has lead to child exploitation charges for a Grande Prairie man.

The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) says 52-year-old Dennis Mossey was arrested by the Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit and Grande Prairie RCMP on June 30. He has been charged with making, possessing, and distributing child pornography.

ALERT says Mossey was allegedly in contact with a person based in the United Kingdom and had shared child sexual abuse images over social media with them. ICE was then notified by the UK National Crime Agency of the alleged crime in June of this year.

With that, ICE is encouraging anyone with information about this case to come forward and contact police, or cybertip.ca.

“This arrest demonstrates the borderless nature of the internet and truly highlights the commitment of agencies from across the globe to protect the health and well-being of children,” said Constable Shawn Cherwaty, ICE.

ALERT says ICE will continue its investigation with a complete forensic analysis of computers and electronic devices seized from Mossey’s home.

Mossey has been released on bail under a number of court-imposed release conditions and is to appear in Grande Prairie court on scheduled court on July 28.
