Grande Prairie down to zero active COVID-19 cases

For the first time since July 9, 2020, Alberta Health is reporting zero active COVID-19 cases in the City of Grande Prairie.

As of July 18, there have been a total of 3,960 cases confirmed in the city since March of 2020. Of those, 29 people have died. All others, 3,931 people, are considered to have recovered from the illness.

Since last July the city has seen two waves of COVID-19 cases, which peaked on May 6 when there were 510 active cases.

There are four active COVID-19 cases in the County of Grande Prairie, as two new cases have been recorded over the last three days.

Across Alberta, there were 130 cases confirmed between Friday and Sunday after over 15,000 tests were completed. There are 605 active cases in the province as of Sunday.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of July 18 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 3,960 cases (3,931 recovered, 29 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,419 cases (four active, 1,410 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 594 cases (590 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 33 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 82 cases (all recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 32 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 151 cases (four active, 137 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 732 cases (12 active, 707 recovered, 13 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 380 cases (378 recovered, two deaths)
  • M.D. of Peace: 703 cases (two active, 701 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 144 cases (five active, 137 recovered, two deaths)
  • Clear Hills County: 136 cases (one active, 134 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 311 cases (310 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 136 cases (all recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,944 cases (seven active, 1,910 recovered, 27 deaths)

Hospitalizations

Across the province, hospitalizations dropped by ten to 100 as of Sunday night, while the number of ICU patients fell by one to 27.

In the North Zone, nine people are in hospital (down three), while two are in the ICU (up one).

Fatalities

Three new COVID-19 deaths were reported to Alberta Health over the weekend, bringing the province’s COVID-19 death toll to 2,316.

Vaccinations

In Grande Prairie, 34,710 people have been given at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine while 27,215 people, or 44.2 per cent of the population, are fully vaccinated.

Across Alberta, 2,811,893 people have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine while 2,244,169 Albertans have been fully vaccinated.

This means 74.5 per cent of eligible Albertans have been given at least one dose of the vaccine, while 57.9 per cent of the eligible population has been fully vaccinated.
