Rotary Club of Grande Prairie After Five hosting Rib Festival July 23-25

Jul 19, 2021 | 6:39 PM

Ribfest is returning to Grande Prairie this coming weekend.

The Rotary Club of Grande Prairie After Five is hosting the event for a second time. It will run Friday through Sunday at the Community Knowledge Campus on the city’s south end.

After Five club president Danielle Bizon says this year’s event will be a drive-thru format like last year, as they were not sure what restrictions would look like when they began planning the event many months ago.

“The main reason we decided to go with another drive-thru is that planning had started so early, kind of as you do with large events, and we wanted to make sure that we were keeping things consistent and not changing too much at the last minute, trying to make it work when we were very uncertain,” said Bizon.

“It just made sense to keep things running consistently… to avoid any hiccups.”

Unlike last year the event will be setting up outside the CKC (Eastlink Centre/Coca-Cola Centre).

Bizon said this area made the most sense as it has plenty of space for both ribbers and rib enthusiasts.

“Without cramming them and backing up onto the streets,” said Bizon. “Once they get off the main street (68 Avenue) they really don’t have to worry about being too squished.”

A total of four ribbers: Billy’s BBQ, Buckeye BBQ, Camp 31, and Pistols Pete’s will all be setting up from July 23-25.

Bizon says there will also be pop-up vendors, drink sales and a 50/50 raffle.

She adds the club will also be selling balloons at the event, which will support the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, a cause the After Five Club has long supported.

“The Imagination Library is a literacy program for children up to the age of five, which the club really supports and runs in the Grande Prairie area.”

The Grande Prairie Ribfest runs from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 25.
