UPDATE: Severe thunderstorm watch ended for Grande Prairie area

UPDATE: The severe thunderstorm watch for the Grande Prairie-Beaverlodge-Valleyview forecast area has ended.

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for the Grande Prairie-Beaverlodge-Valleyview forecast area Tuesday night.

Environment Canada says conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms which could produce strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

They say severe thunderstorms are expected to develop along the foothills and move eastward through the night.

A special air quality statement also remains in affect for the Grande Prairie area due to wildfire smoke lingering in the area.
