Grande Prairie native Garin Bjorklund has been invited to take part in Hockey Canada’s National Junior Team summer development camp.

Bjorklund was named one of five goaltenders invited to take part. Sixteen defencemen and 30 forwards were also invited.

The 19-year-old goaltender is currently a member of the Medicine Hat Tigers and is a 2020 sixth-round draft pick of the Washington Capitals.

In 2020-21 he split time between the Grande Prairie Storm and the Tigers. He posted a .936 save percentage in four games with the Storm and a .921 save percentage in 18 games with the Tigers during the Edmonton WHL bubble.

Bjorklund’s former Grande Prairie minor hockey teammate Kaiden Guhle was also invited to camp. Guhle played on last year’s Hockey Canada world junior team and is a 2020 first-round pick of the Montreal Canadiens.

Grande Prairie-born forward Zach Dean, who grew up and played his minor hockey in Newfoundland and Labrador, was also invited to the camp.

Hockey Canada’s camp takes place from July 28 to August 4 at the Seven Chiefs Sportsplex on the Tsuu T’ina First Nation near Calgary.
