UPDATE: Severe thunderstorm watch issued for Grande Prairie area

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for the Grande Prairie-Beaverlodge-Valleyview forecast area Wednesday.

Environment Canada says conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms which could produce strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

They say severe thunderstorms are expected to develop along the foothills before tracking to the northeast.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
