With public health restrictions eased, the Grande Prairie area is once again buzzing with family-friendly events this weekend.

Some of those events on the schedule for this weekend can be found below:

Rotary Club of Grande Prairie After Five Club’s Drive Through Rib Festival

The Rotary Club of Grande Prairie After Five is hosting a drive-thru rib festival on Saturday and Sunday at the Community Knowledge Campus on the city’s south end.

It will run from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

After Five club president, Danielle Bizon says this year’s event will be a drive-thru format like last year, as they were not sure what restrictions would look like when they began planning the event many months ago.

“The main reason we decided to go with another drive-thru is that planning had started so early, kind of as you do with large events, and we wanted to make sure that we were keeping things consistent and not changing too much at the last minute, trying to make it work when we were very uncertain,” said Bizon.

Full details on the event can be found here.

Grande Prairie International Street Performers Festival

The annual International Street Performers Festival has returned to downtown Grande Prairie, running Saturday and Sunday outside of Revolution Place on the Helen A. Rice Plaza.

Organizers do say that only 150 people can fit onto the plaza, so they do encourage attendees to arrive with their own lawn chairs early to claim a spot. Pre-registration will no longer be required, and attendees are encouraged to give free-will donations to the performers.

The full schedule of performances can be found here.

GP Night Market

The GP Night Market will be set up on Saturday and Sunday at South Bear Creek Park to continue on with its debut weekend.

The event is aimed at bringing community, local shops, restaurants, and entertainment all into one place.

More details on the event can be found here, or on the event’s Facebook page.

Jamie Waldner Music Festival

A plethora of musical performances are on the docket for the Jamie Waldner Music Festival, being held at the grounds of the Grovedale Pioneer Museum.

The day-long concert starts at 1 p.m. Saturday and is a fundraiser in support of local man Jamie Waldner, a husband and father of four who was recently diagnosed with a brain tumour.

More details on the festival can be found here.

High Level Trio at Saskatoon Island Provincial Park

Members of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, known as The High Level Trio, will be performing at the amphitheatre at Saskatoon Island Provincial Park beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Tickets are $32 in advance and can be purchased here.

Aztec Engineering “Family Fun Golf Day” at Bear Paw Par 3

Teams of up to four players can register for the Aztec Engineering “Family Fun Golf Day” at Bear Paw Par 3 golf course on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with all proceeds going to support the Nitehawk Landslide Recovery Fund.

Registration is $25 per player and there is also a silent auction and online 50/50 draw, also going to support Nitehawk’s recovery from a landslide in 2020.

Full details can be found on their website.

Food Trucks and Music in Muskoseepi Park Sunday

As part of its Sundays in the Park schedule this summer, the City of Grande Prairie will have food trucks and live music in Muskoseepi Park this Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
