Odyssey House seeking summer supply donations

Jul 25, 2021 | 5:00 AM

Grande Prairie’s Odyssey House women’s shelter is asking the community for donations.

Because of the heatwave that hit this area in late June and early July, Director of Communications Makayla Marcotte says they’re low on summer supplies for their guests.

“We went through a lot of it (summer products) during the heatwave. We have a call out for sunscreen, mosquito repellent, flipflops or sandals for women or children, water bottles, hats, and we’re looking for some raincoats and rain gear for children.”

Marcotte tells EverythingGP the biggest item they’re in need of at Odyssey House is women’s underwear and socks.

“Those items are donated new,” said Marcotte. “Because of COVID over the last year, we couldn’t take any cloth donations.”

According to Marcotte, they are working with Alberta Health Services to be allowed to receive more cloth donations now that provincial restrictions have been completely lifted.

Because Odyssey House is a congregated living setting, they must follow different rules laid out by AHS and the province.

For those who are unable to donate items, the shelter also accepts monetary donations.

“People are more than welcome to donate cash in any capacity. Some people are more comfortable donating grocery gift cards. Any kind of help we will take.”

If you’re interested in donating to Odyssey House you can do so by contacting the facility by emailing donations@odysseyhouse.ca or by calling them at 780-538-1332.

Current donation drop-off times are Monday’s from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. and Wednesday & Friday’s from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
