Vigen wins in High River

A Grande Prairie driver is the High River chuckwagon champion.

Chanse Vigen won Sunday’s $30,000 final at the Battle of the Foothills wagon races in High River.

Vigen and outriders Rory Armstrong and Ryan McNeil won coming off barrel four.

“Four barrel’s been good to us, yeah. You’ve got to give the credit to the horses. They love to pop off the short barrel. They’re really gelling. We got to into this race running on that barrel Day 4, Day 5 and now Day 6 so they were sharp, and they got a good rhythm going. Pretty proud of the horses.”

Vigen finished ahead of Layne MacGillvray, Vern Nolin, and Evan Salmond.

“I was going to go with that outfit off of any barrel. (When) Evan took one and Vern took two, it made my decision pretty easy. I’m pretty confident driving them off any barrel, but they do like four the best.”

Vigen says it is good to be back racing.

“The show was awesome. The committee here did an unbelievable job. The community got around it. The crowd was packed. Advertisers were pumped. People are happy to be back, so it was a big success for everybody involved and I’m excited to see where the sport is going to go from here.”

The WPCA Pro Tour continues Friday in Strathmore.
