9 cases in the City, 8 in the County

COVID-19 cases in Grande Prairie climb over weekend

COVID-19 cases in the Grande Prairie area have started to climb once again.

There are now nine active cases in the City, along with eight active in the County

The increase comes as 387 new cases were identified across Alberta over the weekend.

Active case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of July 26 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 9
  • County of Grande Prairie: 8
  • M.D. of Greenview: 1
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 1
  • Big Lakes County: 6
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 1
  • M.D. of Peace: 1
  • Mackenzie County: 7

There are 83 Albertans currently in hospital due to COVID-19, 21 of whom are in Intensive Care.

Six Albertans in the North Zone are in hospital, and there are no COVID-19 patients in ICU in the North.

No new COVID-19 deaths were reported over the weekend. A total of 2,322 deaths linked to the novel coronavirus have been recorded in Alberta.

COVID-19 Vaccinations

Meanwhile, the first dose vaccination rate for the province has increased to 75.4 per cent, and 63.4 per cent of Albertans aged 12 and over have received their second jabs.

However, Grande Prairie’s vaccination rate remains well below the provincial average, as 56.9 per cent of eligible City residents and 54.2 per cent of County residents have received their first shots.
